HIRED GUN, You’re #1 and Somebody Hates It is one of the all-time best-selling business books in airport book stores. It completely sold out of all airport book stores literally from Miami, Florida to Anchorage, Alaska and sold in the DFW airport over two years (the average book tenure in airport book stores is two months).
This is a great, hard-hitting book, full of punchy examples and anecdotes that tell it like it really is in the fast moving world of sales and sales management.
—Brian Tracy, CPAE – President, Brian Tracy Learning Systems
Hired Gun is a must-read for every person in sales. If you want to get to the top and stay there, or you’re already at the top and want to stay there, read this book. Robert Workman’s reality focus is a must for all of us.
—Thomas J. Winninger, CSP, CPAE – Cavett Winner and National Speakers Association past president
If you’re considering a career in sales, or if you’re already in sales and need some fresh inspiration, read this book. Laws of the Hired Gun will give you a unique personal perspective of someone who’s ‘been there.’ Workman’s insights are sometimes brazen, sometimes funny, but always interesting! There are some good lessons here.
—Dr. Tony Allesandra, Ph.D., CPAE, CSP – author of The Platinum Rule (Warner Books); Collaborative Selling (Wiley); and Communicating at Work (Fireside/Simon & Schuster)
A great book for anyone seeking personal excellence and professional success – in sales and in life.
—Nido Qubein, CSP, CPAE – author, How To Be A Great Communicator (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.) – Cavett Award Winner and NSA past president
This book is a revelation. A “must read’ for sales people. Willy Loman would not have met the fate he did had he been exposed to its content. And it is written in the brisk writing style of a western novel.
—Alan Cimburg, CPAE, National Speakers Association past director
Hired Gun is refreshing. It takes no-nonsense success principles and puts them in your face in a fun and fascinating way. This is a book that causes you tell yourself the truth, while learning truly powerful ways to achieve and keep more success.
—Jim Cathcart, CSP, CPAE – president of National Speakers Association, winner of Cavett Award, author of Relationship Selling (Putnam Publishing Group), now translated into Chinese, Japanese and Finnish
Hired Gun is THE book every sales manager and business CEO has looked for, longed for, and never found! If you hire salespeople, buy a copy for every one of them.
—Dottie Walters, CSP – author of Understanding the Selling Power of a Woman
(Wilshire Book Company); and Speak and Grow Rich with Lily Walters (Prentice Hall- Simon Schuster)

The way sales books should be…
I’m so sick and tired of sales books that preach about the same old crap – overcoming objections, questioning techniques and that old flogged dead horse – closing.
Hired Gun talks about the REAL stuff. The way top sales people think, how their careers progress and, most importantly for me, how their managers and colleagues perceive them.
Now let’s be clear – this is not a book for the ‘classic career sales person’, this book is for the best of the best, the top two percent of the sales population or those who truly aspire to be among them even if they have to work a few days in a row.
And here lies a word warning – this book is about the THINKING of sales not the doing. If you are a new sales person who desires to be great, then read this book, but not for the practicalities it will teach you, but for something far more important – how to think like a top sales pro.
Workman has clearly been there and done that. Anyone who has been the best, fallen and clawed back up will attest to the truth in his words. This is an entertaining read and I hope Robert will continue along the same way in his next book and avoid all sales crap.

If you think this book is just for sales people, then think again. HIRED GUN is for anyone who is the best in their field. It doesn’t matter if you are a computer jock, marketing rep, or the CEO; the Laws of the Hired Gun apply to you as well.
Filled with great anecdotes and cinematic references, this book helps you to identify potential problems with jealous co-workers, incompetent managers and general corporate stupidity before they effect your career. As you read through each chapter, you’ll find yourself drawing personal parallels to many of the situations that the author and others have experienced.

This is the only book out there of its kind, the only one that tells you how and why so many superstar salespeople leave the selling profession for life after getting burned.
LISTEN: ignore these idiots reviewing this superb book and read the critical reviews from people who matter, i.e. those printed on the outside of the book. Every single one of them is either a superstar, a CSP, or both.
I’m very young and very new but unstoppably driven in a tough selling field (advertising) and this book was pivotal to the success I’ve had and, more importantly, learning how to deal with coming problems before they take me by surprise.
IF YOU PLAN TO REACH THE TOP IN SALES, THIS BOOK WILL PICK UP WHERE ALL THE OTHERS LEAVE OFF AND SAVE YOU FROM GETTING VICTIMIZED WITH YOUR GUARD DOWN.

I’ve been successful in sales over 25 years, taken every sales training seminar you can name.
This book is the only one that has ever told it like it is in the real world of selling.
You master your craft, become successful, then BOOM, somebody’s out to bring you down: a beancounter, a sales manager, a disappointed rep. How do you stay on top? I wish I’d had this book twenty years ago. If I had a sales force of fifty people I’d get it for every one of them.

Hired Gun doesn’t just tell you how to get to the top…
It tells you how to stay on top! Using many cinematic metaphors for the business world, you’ll imagine your office as the set of “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” or “The Magnificent Seven”! There’s quite a few gems among the “Laws of the Hired Gun”!
